Year 2010
Homecoming 2010!
JECAA was excited again! This year was the year of 2nd Homecoming and another chance to meet the super seniors from the Batch of 1985.
The program started with Mrs. Stanley inaugurating the gathering. She boosted us by emphasising the importance of an Alumni Association and the togetherness it brings about. Its always a witty experience to Mrs. Stanley around this time around too she made us all smile
The program followed with falicitating the silver jubilee batch, the batch of 1985! 15 Alumni from the batch joined us and it was overwhelming to see their reaction of meeting each other after so many years and their experiences and stories from the college! We couldn’t get enough of them!
This was then followed by a flute music by Mr. Chandramohan from the batch of 1985 along with his son.
We had our classic housie housie followed by some tasty yummy dinner
A day to remember! Nothing can beat the feeling you experience when one meets college pals after years!

Donate-a-Book Drive!
A sweet visit to the far away Kollegal
JECAA had launched a Donate-a-Book drive in the month of April, May 2010 to support underpriviledged children at the Navajeevana Girls and Boys Home in Paskanagara, Kollegal.
Its our pleasure to share that the drive was a grand success and we had books pouring in from various Patrons from the SJEC. We specially would like to thank Carmel, Sunil Kumar, Paul, Manoj, Karuna, Joseph Sebastian, Sudharshan for having patronise this program. Your efforts in pooling in / donating these resources is much appreciated! Thanks a ton!
We collected about 400 long note books and stationaries which was converted into an Education Kit and distributed to the children at the Navajeevana Girls and Boys Home to support their academic needs for the year 2009 and 2010.
The drive was long and green! Needless to say, the sight was pleasing with us swaying between the forests of Malemahadeshwara betta and Biligirirangana betta. We were tired by the time we reached but as soon we saw the kids waiting for us in excitement, wonder where the tiredness had vanished away. We were able to spend some quality time with the children. Our visit was well appreciated and acknowledged. We saw some great dance and listen to some great singing from the children! The Children were happy to have received the gifts for their education. More than us gone to distribute the gifts it was an eye opener to know the hardships these children undergo to complete a descent education.
During these times in cities like Bangalore where children have the opportunity to go to good schools and study there are children in remote villages like kollegal who are compelled to bow to the poverty in their families and give up studies midway or stop studying after their 10th standard. Most of the boys are tempted to get into quarries to make quick money but the girls seems much determined to go ahead and study nursing or acquire a degree. Life is pretty challenging for these children specially in the academic front and we were happy that JECAA was able to contribute atleast a bit.
One of the objectives of JECAA is to be sensitive to the needs of the less priviledged brothers and sisters we are living around with and probably this step added more meaning to our objective. JECAA will come out with programs to support these kids both financially and morally in guiding them toward the right path and is sure that we have more than enough number of good hearts amoungst the Josephites!
Special thanks to Joseph Sebastian, Sudharshan, Sunil Kumar, Jeetendra, Ralph and Matilda for having gone all this way long to distribute the education kits, spending time and understanding the needs of these children and making this program a success!
And not to forget! It was memorable to bond with fellow alumni

Srujana Award 2010
JECAA’s 2nd Srujana Award! Quite a milestone ain’t it?
This time around, we invited students to write to us on why do they think they are suitable to get the Srujana Award. We had some interesting entries and it all boiled down to Sheela from the Final Year BA being the winner this year. This year’s Srujana Award receipient was selected collectively by the decision was also supported by the Principal, Governor Mrs. Jane D’souza and the core members of JECAA.
Sheela was chosen to be the Most Creative Josephite for having displayed her talent in Fine Arts in various ways. Sheela has outgrown her fine arts skills more than just being a hobby. JECAA is happy to be encouraging such a wonderful talent with the Srujana Award for the Year 2009-2010.
JECAA’s First Presence in NAAC!
It gives us immense pleasure in writing this post about JECAA’s first successuful presence in the accrediation process of SJEC.
As many of already know, NAAC stands for National Assessment and Accrediation Council (http://naacindia.org/) which is an Autonoumous Institution of the University Grants Commission. The NAAC has been set up to help all participating institutions assess their performance vis-a-vis set parameters. A rating agency for academic excellence across India, and the country’s first such effort.
The alumni was one of the community the NAAC peer team wanted to meet.
Prior to the interaction, we submitted a report on the activities held from 2007 to 2009. (Attached) Activities_of_St._JosephÆs_Evening_College_Alumni_Association_Year_07-09
On 11th of Jan, 10 – 22 Alumni of SJEC which included Kanishka, Chandrashekar, Ambika, Divya, Carmel, Thyagraj, Darius Washington, Naveen D’Souza, Jeetendra, Matilda, Joseph Sebastian, Ralph Pereira, Mansoor J.K, Royar, Jonathan Jayadev, Joseph V.T, Philomena P.J, Anand S, Suman R, Subramani, C.R Naveen and Manjunath M. met the NAAC peer team for a close interaction.
The interaction was fruitful one which gave a platform to the Alumni to express what they have got and what they are today because of SJEC and also to point out areas of improvement which would be beneficial to SJEC in upgrading and get a facelift.
The NAAC peer team expressed their appreciation to Fr. Madtha about the Alumni of SJEC and termed us as “Vibrant” Kudos! to All
Special thanks to Fr. Madtha for having invited to the Alumni to the interaction and thanks to all the Alumni who participated in the interaction with the Peer team inspite of it being a weekday. Thanks again!
This gave a chance to make a real contribution to the Alma Mater!
