Year 2008
Awareness and Training session in FIRST AID
Awareness and Training on First AID forms one of the important objective’s of SJEC for the year 2008 and 2009 and we are glad that JECAA was of assistance to the college and student community in achieving this objective for the year.
JECAA always aims at giving the best to the younger one’s and thus we chose St. John’s Ambulance Association, a 900 year old UK based organisation, having numerous branches all over the world. http://www.sja.org.uk/sja/default.aspx
The Bangalore chapter of St. John’s Ambulance Association was kind to accept our invitation to conduct a 3 day seminar for difference classes on Awareness and Training in First Aid.
Dr. Krishnamurthy & Mr. Selvaraj conducted the Awareness & Practical sessions respectively on all three days. The sessions were conducted for the Final Year B.Com, Second Year B.Com and 1st Year BA students.
Dr. Krishnamurthy from SJA covered basics of basic knowledge about first aid, anatomy of human body, actions on emergency situations and things to keep in mind in an emergency situation. Mr. Selvaraj then held demonstrations of basics in first aid for Epilepsy, Cardiac Arrest, Accidents & other minor to intermediate emergencies.
We’d like to once again extend our thanks to Naveen C.R from Final Year B.Com for having been of great help on all these three days!
Seminar on Career in Travel and Tourism
A seminar on Career in Travel and Tourism was held for the I Year BA students. The seminar was conducted by Dr. Arvind Babu, Director, Institute of Travel Management, Bangalore. Dr. Arvind Babu is a pioneer in the field of Travel and Tourism and has more than 40 years of experience. We were amazed to know that he is a Josephite too who passed out during the 70’s!. It was indeed a pleasure to have had a person with such vast experience talk to the students at SJEC.
The session was shaped up to be very interesting giving out information about the vast plethora of opportunities students could possibly tap in this field. This was the first time that these youngsters were posed with information on opportunities in travel and tourism including specific opportunities in aviation. We were happy that the students were given out to experience information on this piece of a potential career option and we are sure that the students did too!
Awareness Talk on HIV/AIDS
An Awareness seminar was held for the Ist Year BA students on HIV/AIDS. The seminar was conducted by Mr. Jacob D’Souza who is associated with an International observation study based on HIV/AIDS at St. John’s Medical College Hospital and PhD student researching on a topic in HIV/AIDS. He was accompanied by Mr. Vishwanath who is also a Research team member at St. John’s Medical College Hospital.
Initially, the students were seen closed and hesitating to open on the topic. But gradually, the speaker was very able to make students understand that there was nothing to be ashamed or scared to talk on the topic.
The speaker covered basic information on HIV/AIDS followed by a question and answer session. There were lot of other misconception amongst the student community about HIV/TB/Malaria and other communicable diseases which the speaker addressed to.
The students were keen on another session to get answers to the many questions they still had and thus we had to extend the session to another day.
The second day’s session saw some more technical and advanced information on prevention and treatment.
We were told by some students of the same batch that this was a new experience and some of them were really scared at the name of HIV but are now able to accept the same word with some ease. We were happy that the session was well received and appreciated by the student community.
Seminar on Career in CA, CS & ICWA
A seminar on career in Chartered Accountancy was conducted for the Final year B.Com Students.
Ms. Vasumathy, from Pratignya Academy, Bangalore, A specialised coaching academy for CA / CS and ICWA conducted an informative session on pursuing a career in the above professions. The students were exposed to the various access points available in pursuing these professional courses. The informative session was much appreciated by the students and their representatives.
We’d like to thank Naveen C.R from Final Year B.Com for having helped in co-ordinating this session. Thanks Naveen
Teacher’s Day Celebrations
JECAA made its presence in the Teacher’s Day celebrations this year organised in a big way by the Student council of SJEC. The programme was very well planned and executed by the Student Council members and it was immensely impressive to see the little ones put in so much of efforts to make our mentor’s feel special on thier day.
The Alumni also contributed in a small but significant way just to say “Thanks” to all teaching faculty and say how much we love them.
A handpainted banner was put up in front of the staff room with a Thanks Message on it. The lecturer’s and Fr. Madtha, the Principal of SJEC appreciated the effort and were seen reading through it!
During the function, Mary Nandini, from the Batch of 2007 read out a Teacher’s day message to the Teaching fraternity and Satish from the Batch of 2006 sang an overwhelming song dedicated to our beloved lecturers.
The whole effort and contribution by the Alumni was much appreciated by everyone and I was said by most of the Lecturers that this was the first time they saw the Alumni contribute during a Teacher’s Day celebration. That note was an absolute feel good and a motivator for more significant contributions in the years to come!
Seminar on Career in Animation
JECAA conducted a seminar on CAREER in ANIMATION in collaboration with ANTS (Animation Training School, Bangalore).
The seminar was led by Mr. Maseeh Ullah, the General Manger for Franchisee Business Development at ANTS
The seminar touched topics like, introduction on the animation industry, scope and potential for a career in animation etc., The seminar was well carried out by the speaker with a camouflage of video clips and interesting examples and facts related to the industry.
The seminar was attended by students of the ARTS section and the number was welcoming. The seminar was well attended by the young minds and as per some of the students, it was an informative and interactive piece of time spent and were happy for the opportunity provided by JECAA.
Thanks to Fr. Madtha, Principal, SJEC, Varghese Thomas, Joseph Sebastian, Joseph Francis, C.R Naveen (Final yr B.Com) and the support staff at SJEC for having contributed in making this seminar a successful step!!
